THE National President of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade (Dr) Nasir Idris, was on Thursday elected by delegates as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 general elections.
Idris polled 1,055 votes to defeat the Senate Leader, Dr Abdullahi Yahyah, who polled 0 vote, and Alhaji Gari Malan, who polled 35 votes.
While declaring the results, the Chairman of APC National Committee on Kebbi State Gubernatorial election, Alhaji Idris Yushau Yakubu, said: “As the Chairman of the Committee, I hereby declare Dr Nasir Idris as the elected governorship candidate of APC haven polled 1,055 out of 1,090 votes casted” [sic]. He thanked all the delegates, stakeholders for their good conduct during the exercise.
The voting exercise, which commenced in the morning ended 8pm after all the 21 local government delegates cast their votes in the exercise monitored by security agencies, INEC officers among others.
After he was declared winner of the primary which held at Haliru Abdul Stadium, Birnin Kebbi, Comrade (Dr) Idris thanked his supporters and the members of the APC in Kebbi State.
The primary was witnessed by Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, former governor of the state, Adamu Aleiro, Bala Ibn-Na’Allah and Muhammadu Magoro, as well as the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
