THE Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria Branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has rejected all the proposals made by the Federal Government at the negotiation last week with ASUU’s National Strike Coordinating Committee (NSCC).
The rejection of the proposal was part of the resolutions reached at an Emergency Congress Meeting of the ABU branch of the union on Monday, 19th October at the Mamman Kontagora Square, ABU and signed by Rabiu Nasiru and Hussein A. Abdullahi, the branch’s Chairman and Secretary, respectively.
While commending the National Strike Coordinating Committee, and reaffirming its position in support of the National Strike Coordinating Committee in pursuing the current strike action, the ABU Congress of the union said it “unanimously rejects all the proposals of the Federal Government as presented and urge the NSCC to ensure that all matters that led to the current strike action are pursued to logical conclusion.”
The Federal Government at its meeting with ASUU on Ocotber 15, 2020 made a number of offers to ASUU’s negotiating team which said it was taking back the government’s offers to its members for consideration to revert back to government on Wednesday October 21, 2020.
Among government’s proposals include payment of salaries under the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), funding for the revitalisation of public universities, Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), Salary Shortfall and withheld salaries as well as the reconstitution of the Government Renegotiating Team and visitation panels to federal universities.
