THE military personnel in charge of monitoring the closed-circuit television (CCTV) at the permanent site of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Afaka, Kaduna State, were alleged to be asleep when bandits attacked the premises at about 1:25am on Tuesday.

TheCable, an online newspaper, quoting some military sources in Nigeria’s premier military university, reports that the bandits sneaked in through a part of the facility that had no fence.

According to the report, “it was in the middle of the night, and the personnel that were meant to be monitoring the CCTV had slept off. They could have put everyone on alert, and avert the attack.”

The publication speculated that the academy’s authorities would court martial the personnel responsible for the breach for failing to secure the area.

“The Academy in collaboration with the 1Division Nigerian Army and Air Training Command as well as other security agencies in Kaduna state has [sic] since commenced pursuit of the unknown gunmen within the general area with a view to tracking them and rescue the abducted personnel.
