THE Vice Chancellor, Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, Prof. Tor Joe Iorapuu, has said the University’s management, academic and non-academic staff are working assiduously round the clock to deliver the best educational service as desired by the founders of the first state-owned university in northern Nigeria.
Prof. Iorapuu, while declaring open, the 10th Post Graduate Lecture Series and Orientation of the institution held at the Auditorium of the College of Health Sciences, Makurdi, said under his leadership, all resources will be harnessed and redeployed to improve the rating of the state varsity not only as one of the best in Nigeria or Africa but also among the best 200 universities in the world.
Prof. Tor Iorapuu, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC), Academic, Prof. Steven Ubwa, added that BSU’s management is ever ready to transform the landscape of academic activities, knowledge acquisition and infrastructure, by providing qualitative, conducive and productive teaching and learning facilities towards the total upliftment of academic, economic, political, agricultural, medical, environmental, scientific, technological, and socio-cultural services to all stakeholders both within and outside the university.
Prof. Iorapuu charged stakeholders of the institution, especially staff and students, to abide by the university’s rules of engagement by avoiding indiscipline, cultism, malpractices, all forms of immortality, and social media rascality, saying anyone working contrary to the goals of actualising the strategic agenda of the longstanding desire for an excellent rating in the comity of world universities wouldn’t be allowed to go scot-free.
Prof. Iorapuu, while congratulating the post graduate school and students emphasised that sustainable and enabling environment would be provided at all times, advising anyone with genuine grievance or useful suggestion to use lawful procedures and follow due process of laying perceived deficiencies or shortcomings.
In his welcome remarks, Prof. Vearumun Vitalis Tarhule, Dean of Post Graduate School, expressed deep appreciation to the Vice Chancellor and the university’s management for releasing funds to host the lecture series and orientation as well as the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Prof. Linus Saalu, for obliging the venue, while similarly appreciating all deans, Academic Directors, Heads of Departments and the 493 registered Post Graduate Students for making the lecture a huge success.
