Congress of Senior Civil Servants Urges EFCC, ICPC, CCB to Thoroughly Investigate Alleged Corruption in ASCN

THE Congress of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (CSCSN) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to carry out a thorough investigation of allegations of corruption in the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN).

Comrade Alade Bashir Lawal, Secretary General of ASCSN

CSCSN, a pressure group in the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria affiliated to the Trade Union Congress (TUC), is also asking the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to, as a matter of urgency, demand for the assets declaration of all officials of the ASCSN.

A press release by the Congress of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, signed by its convener, Comrade Andrew Emelieze, said in addition to over 20 officials already invited by the EFCC, the treasurer of the union had recently been invited by the ICPC for questioning over the finances of ASCSN.

According to Comrade Emelieze in the press release, the ICPC had entered the race to investigate corrupt union officials of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria.

“Information reaching us confirms that the treasurer of the union is mandated to appear before the ICPC. The treasurer is also directed to come along with the financial records of the union in the past ten years. Our source has also confirmed that the treasurer of the union have not honoured the ICPC invitation since last month. The same treasurer had also been invited by the EFCC but equally yet to honour the invitation.

“Information reaching us has also confirmed that among those to be invited for further investigations include the Secretary General of the Senior Civil Servants Association [sic], Comrade Alade Bashir Lawal and the immediate past President of ASCSN, who also doubles as the immediate past President General of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Comrade Bobboi Kaigama.

“We are also aware that the Secretary General of ASCSN, Comrade A. B. Lawal is trying to frustrate the investigation by discouraging staff of the union from honouring the invitations by anti-graft agencies; through a threat letter he issued immediately after the Kwara state secretary of the union visited the EFCC…

“The chairmen of EFCC and ICPC, Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa and Prof Bolaji Owasanoye respectively are called upon by concerned members of the union to ensure a thorough investigation and ensure also that the investigations are not compromised,” the press release reads.
