A member of #Justice4Ochanya and founder, Men Against Rape, Mr Lemmy Ughegbe has stated that the April 28, 2022 Makurdi High Court judgement acquitting a senior lecturer of the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, Mr Andrew Ogbuja, on charges bothering on the rape to death of 13-year-old Ochanya Ogbanje remains a blow in the fight against child Abuse.
Men Against Rape is an advocacy civil society organisation that champions the cause of Justice for victims and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
Ughegbe, who stated this in a recent interview with a team of journalist on Arise Television, said the refusal of the presiding judge, Justice Augustine Ityonyiman, to consider a video evidence of the deceased teenager’s interview with the African Independent Television (AIT), which was admitted in evidence before the court, as well as the findings of the autopsy report from the Nigerian Police forensic laboratory in Lagos was legally inexplicable.
The human rights activists, advised the Benue State governor to take up the task of issuing a fiat to a team of private lawyers to challenge the High Court’s decision on Mr Ogbuja’s acquittal.
