THE federal government on Wednesday ordered that with effect from December 1 2021, it will become mandatory for all federal workers to be vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus as a precondition for access to their various offices.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on Covid-19, Mr Boss Mustapha, announced the order at the PSC briefing on Wednesday.
He said as from December 1, 2021, all federal workers will be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination or present a negative PCR result to gain access to their offices.
“With effect from 1st December, 2021, Federal Government employees shall be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination or present a negative Covid-19 PCR test result done within 72 hours, to gain access to their offices, in all locations within Nigeria and our Missions,” the SGF said, noting that that appropriate service-wide circular will be issued to guide the process.
Mr Mustapha had on September 2, 2021, said the Covid-19 vaccination will be made compulsory for federal civil servants once vaccines are available for everyone.
At the time, he said one of the reasons for compulsory vaccination of civil servants is because they will be travelling on behalf of the nation.
