FORMER General Secretary (Ag) of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Salisu Nuhu Muhammad, has commended the leadership of Congress for acquiring a three-bedroom apartment and donating it to the family of the late Comrade Paschal Bafyau.
Muhammad, in a letter dated April 1, 2021, and addressed to the President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, entitled; “Letter of Appreciation”, thanked the entire members of Congress leadership for the three bedroom apartment, whose keys and documents were given to the family of the late Comrade Bafyau on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the Paschal Bafyau Labour House national headquarters of the NLC in Abuja.
“I am sending this letter to thank you and the entire members of your executive and also to very quickly join the groundswell of nice encomiums that continue to pour in from the rank and file union members, the esteemed leaders of the affiliate labour unions, the respected labour veterans and indeed the wider Nigerian public, following the exceedingly good news we received barely two days ago, about the formal brief ceremony that marked the handing over of the keys to the beautiful house built by the Congress for the family of our dear comrade and leader, the late Paschal Myeleri Bafyau.
“In appreciating you and your colleagues for this exemplary noble gesture which is very consistent and harmonious with well-known labour traditions the world over, it is equally significant to briefly underscore the appropriateness of this action in terms of its lasting positive impacts in boosting the psyche, morale and collective sense of solidarity that exist between and amongst the hardworking Nigerian masses.
“May the highly cherished labour spirit that inspired you and your wise team of Trade Union leaders to carry out these righteous and commendable deeds also continue to grow from strength to strength, so as to collectively and energetically catalyze and catapult the Congress and our nation’s bourgeoning labour movement to many more greater heights in the years to come.
“Well done!” Comrade Muhammad stated.
At the ceremony last Tuesday when keys and documents to the 3-bedroom residential apartment, located at the Federal Housing Estate, Zuba-FCT, were presented to widow of the late labour leader, Mrs Maria Bafyau, and their daughter along with other family members, Comrade Wabba said it was a gesture that is in tandem with the trade union philosophy of comradeship and solidarity.
While noting that all affiliate unions of the NLC made contributions to the acquisition of the property, Wabba singled out the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) for kindly making available the apartment, which originally belonged to it, to the NLC to be utilised for the purpose.
