BENUE State governor, Samuel Ortom, on Saturday assured Mbavaa Community in Konshisha LGA of the state that road infrastructure and quality education will be provided for them before the end of his tenure.
The governor stated this at a reception organised by Mbavaa Community in honour of their one of their sons, Mr Julius Atorough, held at Mbavaa Community Secondary School (MCSS), Amua-Gaav.
Governor Ortom, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Basic Education, Dr Sarwuan Tarnongo, assured the community that the road linking Ge-Ikyobo-Anshagba and Agbeede-Vandeikya will soon be completed like other roads in the state under his administration.
In response to some requests made by Mbavaa community for the state government to take over the school and increase staff strength, Governor Ortom made it known that already he had approved the recruitment of five thousand (5,000) teachers for Secondary schools in the state and some of them will be posted to the school.
He also explained that the state’s Education By-Law was being amended in order to resume the grant-aiding of schools which was hitherto halted, assuring that schools will be grant aided and MCSS which is on the list of schools to be grant aided will equally be considered.
Governor Ortom appreciated the community for their support to his government and for recognising their son, Mr Atorough, who developed their school beyond community standard.
In his remark, Executive Chairman, Konshisha LGA, and Co-host of the event, Hon. James Jirgba, appreciated Mr Atorough for his enormous contributions to MCSS and urged youths to embrace education which he said is the best investment that must be taken seriously in the contemporary society.
In his address, the Chief celebrant, Mr Atorough while calling on other well-meaning sons and daughters of the area to join hands in order to uplift the lot of their people, pointed out some efforts made by his Foundation for the past 17 years to support government in terms of education.
He appreciated the efforts of Mbavaa elders like Chief Raymond Ihyembe, Chief Joseph Akaagerger, Chief Edward Ujege and the late Chief Joe Leke who trailed the blaze by establishing schools in Mbavaa.
