THE Socialist Congress of Nigeria (SCON) on Wednesday called on trade unions and working class organisations to declare national solidarity of the masses against ruling class war against workers in Kaduna State massively retrenched recently by the state governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai.
In a press statement signed by Emeritus Professor Omotoye Olorode, General Secretary, SCON commends the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) for its historic class support and solidarity with the ongoing with the working people of Kaduna State.
While congratulating NUEE for its bold declaration of support for the workers of Kaduna State, SCON said NUEE’s declaration” underscores two important lessons” for Nigerian workers.
“First, the ruling-class across ethnic and religious divides doesn’t care about the growing disaster of merely “surviving” among the masses of Nigeria. The ruling class keep using exactly the same instruments (retrenchment, denial of statutory minimum wage, non-payment of wages, privatization, manipulation of ethno-nationalism, religion, sectionalism, and general withdrawal of public welfare funding) to deepen mass poverty, fear, violence and hopelessness among our peoples.
“The second lesson of the historic Solidarity being deployed by NUEE is that the working people of Nigeria, Africa and the world at large are, and must continue to be, united as a CLASS to eradicate inequality, and poverty: the two main causes of crimes, violence, fear, communal clashes, insurgency and generalized insecurity in Nigeria especially today!”
