NEC Meets to Tackle el-Rufai Over Mass Sack of Workers

Meanwhile the NLC has convened a meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) to hold at the Comrade Olaitan Oyerinde Auditorium, Paschal Bafyau Labour House National Headquarters of the NLC as from 2pm, today, Thursday, April 22, 2021.

The meeting, National Record findings indicate has top on its agenda for deliberation the mass sack of workers being planned by the Kaduna State government.

The NLC leadership is said to be mobilising for a nationwide solidarity strike with employees in the public service of Kaduna State, about 70 to 80 per cent of whom face mass retrenchment in a purge planned by Governor el-Rufai on the excuse that he was not elected to pay only salaries.

The el-Rufai government had already sacked over 27 thousand employees, mainly teachers and local government workers.

If the governor is allowed to successfully accomplish the mass sack, it is feared that other states, including the federal government, may follow suit in a matter of months.

The NEC of NLC, which is the highest organ in between the quadrennial delegates conferences of the Congress, is composed of all elected National Officers, HODs at the national secretariat of NLC, General Secretaries and Presidents of affiliate unions, NLC State Councils Chairmen and secretaries.
