THE Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) has rejected the appointment of a Public Trustee by the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), His Lordship, Honourable Justice B. B. Kanyip, to oversee the union for three months, stating that it is not in crises and that such appointment will only do the union more harm than good.
The rejection of the recently appointed Public Trustee, Mr Monday O. Ubani, Esq., is contained in an 8-point resolution arrived at an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of NCSU held virtually on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 with participation of almost all its state councils.
National Record had yesterday hinted that leadership of the union at its National Secretariat had summoned an emergency NEC meeting but erroneously noted that the meeting was scheduled for either today, Wednesday or tomorrow, Thursday.
Among other resolutions passed by the NEC is a vote of confidence on the leadership of Comrade Lawrence Amaechi in which it assured the union’s membership that the problems currently being faced by the union would be resolved peacefully with internal mechanism.

The NEC however advised the Public Trustee, Mr Ubani, Esq., “to desist from terrorising the National Secretariat of the Union with security agents and allow the Secretariat staff of the Union to do their lawful jobs of Trade Union administration.”
In the two-page resolution obtained by National Record, signed by Comrade Timothy Odebunmi, Federal Council Chairman, and Comrade G. C. Anucha on behalf of the General Secretary, the union said the NEC meeting was summoned at the instance of NCSU’s General Secretary, Comrade Idris Y. Ndako, to address recent developments whereby the National Industrial Court appointed a Trustee to oversee the activities of the Union for three months and conduct a new National Delegates’ Conference that will elect new National Leadership of the Union.
Comrade Ndako told the emergency NEC that while the union recognises the legality of the National Industrial Court, and indeed holds it in high esteem; he was however compelled to summon the NEC as it is composed of key stakeholders of the union to discuss on the way forward.
He assured the meeting that the union is fully intact as all the States and Federal Councils and the entire NEC members are still intact, loyal and supportive of the Comrade Lawrence Amaechi leadership.
The NEC, at the end of its deliberations, resolved as follows: “1) NEC-in-Session rejected vehemently the imposition of Public Trustee on the Union.
“2) NEC-in-Session noted that the Union in its entirety, made up of 36 State Councils and the Federal Council is intact, hence any attempt at appointing a Trustee will cause unnecessary distractions.
“3) NEC noted that our Union is not in crises hence appointment and imposition of a Public Trustee will only do the Union more harm than good.
“4) NEC-in-Session resolved that the Leadership of the Union should continue to interface with the aggrieved members to resolve the crises out of court.
“5) NEC advised one Mr. Monday Ubani, the acclaimed Public Trustee to desist from terrorizing the National Secretariat of the Union with security agents and allow the Secretariat staff of the Union to do their lawful jobs of Trade Union administration.
“6) NEC directed the National Leadership of the Union to pursue the matter in Court of Appeal to its logical conclusion as quickly as possible to ensure immediate resolution of the crises.
“7) NEC passed vote of confidence on Comrade Amaechi L. U. lead [sic] Administration of the Union hence it assured the spectrum membership of the Union that the problems would be resolved peacefully with internal mechanism.
“8) Lastly NEC directed all our State Councils to remain calm and continue with the lawful business of Organizing our members.”
