COMRADE Nuhu A. Toro has been appointed as the Secretary General and Chief Executive of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC). The appointment takes effect Friday, 12th August, 2022.
Comrade Toro, until his appointment, was the Deputy Secretary General of TUC.
A press release signed by TUC President, Comrade Festus Osifo, said the appointment of Comrade Toro was ratified by the National Executive Council (NEC) at its meeting held at the Benue/Plateau Meeting Room, Transcorp Hilton Hotels, Abuja, following the recommendation by the centre’s National Administrative Council (NAC) and Central Working Committee (CWC).
Toro fills the the vacuum created by the demise of Comrade Musa Lawal-Ozigi who was killed during the Abuja-Kaduna train attack last March.
Toro, an experienced trade unionist with over two decades of odyssey in the trade union movement has served in different departments and capacities at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) especially Organising and Industrial Relations before joining the TUC three years ago.
According to the press release, Toro “is positive driven, strong, active and self-motivated with high sense of creativity. He is an alumnus of the Global Labour University, where he obtained a Master’s degree from the State University of Campinas, Brazil in Labour Economics. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Sociology (Development) at University of Abuja.”
